Texas State Rep David Simpson filed for re-election!

David Simpson was the freshman state representative during the last legislative session that did all that was possible to get legislation passed in Austin to stand against the TSA and the federal government's violation of the 4th Amendment.
Here is David's "personal privilege speech" he delivered moments after the TSA bill was defeated in the House on June 29, 2011, and moments before the House adjouned sine die for 2 years:

REPRESENTATIVE DAVID SIMPSON ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR RE-ELECTION Rep. Simpson Files for Re-Election Under the New Texas House Maps for District 7
(Longview) – State Representative David Simpson (R-Longview) today filed for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives, District 7. Hundreds of grassroots supporters have already contributed to his re-election campaign since the end of the legislative session this past summer. “I am grateful for the support and encouragement I have received after returning from the legislative session,” said Rep. Simpson. “Our state’s rich resources and courageous heritage of individual freedom and responsibility have made Texas great and unique. With the blessing of the people and Providence, I will continue to work to restore civil government to its proper, limited role; to defend the Constitution; and to protect the interests of East Texans.” District 7 currently encompasses Gregg County and the northern part of Smith County. However, after the redistricting process District 7 will be comprised of the entirety of both Gregg and Upshur Counties. This change will be effective for the March 6th Republican primary and when the Legislature convenes in 2013. Local business owner Suzanne Cook said of Rep. Simpson, “We elected David Simpson because we believed he would best represent the conservative values of East Texas with honesty and integrity. He did not disappoint, and certainly exceeded the expectations many had for a freshman Representative in the House. I can't wait to see how much he will accomplish in his next term!” Young Conservatives of Texas, an organization respected for detailed legislative ratings issued at the end of each session, named Simpson “Rookie of the Year” and placed him on their Honor Roll. The political journal Capitol Inside named Rep. Simpson Co-MVP of the Freshman Class, and taxpayer watchdog group Texans for Fiscal Responsibility gave Simpson their highest award, naming him a “Taxpayer Champion.” During the past session, Rep. Simpson successfully authored amendments protecting state and individual rights that were incorporated into legislation signed by the Governor. Rep. Simpson also supported the Voter ID bill and legislation that was enacted to protect individuals’ right to keep and bear arms and reduce taxpayer funding of abortion providers. He authored several other amendments to divert funds from corporate welfare and direct them to education and other essential services. “David Simpson not only represented our district’s moral values but also worked tirelessly to protect our constitutional rights and freedoms through promoting our state’s rights,” noted Longview entrepreneur Kyle Smith. “I am glad to support him as he runs for re-election and urge my neighbors in District 7 to do the same. Rep. Simpson is one of a new breed of representatives who will lead this state to restore and maintain freedom.” Bob Martin, businessman from Kilgore, remarked: “It has been my pleasure to support and get to know David over this past year. His words are backed up by his actions. He is a true Christian conservative dedicated to God, family values and supporting conservative issues in East Texas. He is a leader I can trust to represent District 7 and make a real lasting change in Texas state government.” Rep. Simpson was elected in 2009 after defeating a 14-year incumbent in the primary. He ran on a platform of defending the Constitution, preserving East Texas family values, and restoring government to its proper, limited role. Rep. Simpson lives in Longview with his wife of 26 years, Susan, and the three youngest of their seven children.
